Rangel Proposes Tax Changes, Expanded Unemployment Insurance

From Bloomberg:

Representative Charles Rangel said Democrats view an economic stimulus package approved this week as a "first step," and want to expand unemployment insurance and revamp the tax code to help low-income workers.

Rangel, the chairman of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee, blamed President George W. Bush for his stewardship of an economy in which incomes stagnated for the poor, gas prices rose to record levels and the cost of education and health care soared.

"Now while this package is maybe a good first step, it seems to me after recovery -- and we will recover -- that we have to really take a look to see what caused us to get into this situation and how we can get out," Rangel, of New York, said in the Democratic radio address today.
